Berlin police arrest suspect with drugs, knife after station chase
A 42-year-old German man was arrested at Berlin's Jungfernheide station after fleeing an identity check. Police discovered large amounts of suspected narcotics and a weapon on him. The suspect was already known to authorities for previous offences.
Federal police officers attempted to verify the man's identity at the station on Tuesday. When approached, he tried to run away but was quickly detained. A search revealed a folding knife, a significant quantity of drugs, and €440 in cash.
The suspect was taken to a local police station for processing. Berlin's Criminal Investigation Division then assumed control of the case. They ordered his transfer to a central detention facility for further questioning.
The man is scheduled to appear before a magistrate on Wednesday for a custody hearing. Authorities suspect violations of narcotics laws and illegal possession of a weapon. His prior record includes previous encounters with police.
This arrest follows a broader trend in Berlin. In 2024, police identified 55 major organised crime investigations involving 371 suspects. Of these, 20 cases centred on drug trafficking and smuggling, causing €6.9 million in damages.
The seized items—drugs, a knife, and cash—will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation. If convicted, the suspect could face charges related to narcotics and weapons offences. The case adds to Berlin's efforts to combat organised drug-related crime.
