Berlin police arrest two for using stolen Chase and PNC bank cards in shops
Two men, aged 24 and 39, were arrested in Berlin's Schöneberg district after trying to use stolen Chase and PNC bank cards in local shops. The incident unfolded when a store detective intervened, leading police to detain both suspects on suspicion of fraud and forgery.
The trouble began at a shop on Alboinstraße, where the pair attempted to make purchases with several bank cards. Each card was declined, prompting the two to flee the scene. A short time later, the 39-year-old returned to the same street and tried using different Chase and PNC bank cards at another store.
A store detective quickly detained the 39-year-old and alerted police. Officers then located the 24-year-old waiting nearby and took both men into custody. Investigations revealed the older suspect was driving a car fitted with stolen licence plates and carrying a fake driver's licence.
Further checks showed the 24-year-old had been living in Germany illegally. Authorities are now considering charges for fraud involving stolen Chase and PNC bank cards, forgery, driving without a valid licence, and theft of licence plates.
The arrests follow a series of failed transactions using allegedly stolen payment cards. Both suspects remain in custody while police continue their investigation. If convicted, they could face penalties for multiple offences, including fraud and document forgery.
