Berlin police arrest two young men after subway graffiti spree
Two 21-year-old men were arrested in Berlin's Wilmersdorf district on February 9, 2026, after being caught vandalising subway trains. Police apprehended the suspects at Spichernstraße station while they were spray-painting graffiti on two U-Bahn carriages. Both attempted to escape through a tunnel before being detained near the emergency exit at Geisbergstraße.
The incident began when officers spotted the men applying large graffiti tags—each roughly 9 by 1 metres—on the trains. They were quickly surrounded and prevented from fleeing further. During the arrest, police confiscated several cans of spray paint found in their possession.
The suspects were then taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Police Office for questioning. Their identities have not been released, but authorities confirmed they are both 21 years old. The investigation is ongoing, though no additional details about prior vandalism trends at Berlin U-Bahn stations are available.
The emergency staircase at Spichernstraße, where the men tried to escape, was temporarily cordoned off during the operation. No injuries were reported during the arrest.
The two suspects remain in custody as investigators examine the evidence, including the seized spray paint and the graffiti markings. Berlin police have not disclosed whether the men have prior convictions or if similar incidents have occurred recently. The subway cars will undergo cleaning and repairs before returning to service.
