Berlin police bust suspected drug dealers after traffic stop turns tense
Two suspected drug dealers were arrested in Berlin's Wedding district after a routine traffic stop early on Tuesday. Police pulled over a Mercedes for running a red light at the intersection of Seestraße and Sylter Straße. The incident quickly escalated when officers uncovered drugs and cash inside the vehicle. A patrol unit from Precinct 17 initially stopped the car after it failed to obey traffic signals. As officers approached, the 41-year-old driver handed an unidentified item to his passenger. The man then refused to show identification and gave false personal details.
During a search, police found cash, small containers of white powder believed to be cocaine, and other evidence on both the driver and passenger. The driver, who had multiple outstanding arrest warrants, was taken into custody. The passenger was later released without charge. After processing, the driver was transferred to the narcotics division of Police Directorate 1 (North). A follow-up search of his home uncovered more narcotics and a precision scale. Authorities seized the Mercedes and all incriminating items found at the scene and residence.
The investigation remains ongoing under the narcotics unit. No prior drug-related offences for the driver were recorded before this incident. Police have not released further details about the case at this time.
