Berlin Police Face Firework Attack by Youths in Markisches Viertel
Berlin police were called to the Markisches Viertel district after fireworks were launched at pedestrians and vehicles near a shopping center. Around 90 officers were deployed to handle the situation, which involved groups of young people setting off pyrotechnics and throwing them at officers.
The incident began when two patrol units were dispatched to Wilhelmsruher Damm around 6:45 p.m. Police started dispersing the crowds, using physical force to move some youths. Over the course of the evening, around 150 young people gathered in small clusters, repeatedly setting off pyrotechnics and throwing them at officers.
Authorities conducted identity checks on 28 minors, releasing them after verification. During these checks, police seized 25 pyrotechnic items, a flick knife, and approximately 50 grams of a suspected narcotic substance. Investigations are ongoing following the incident. In one instance, a firework exploded near the officers, identified as an illegal explosive device.
