Berlin Police Nab Pickpocket Trio After Swift Bus Operation
Berlin police have apprehended a pickpocketing trio after a swift operation by the city's special forces unit. The suspects, a 56-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man, and a 20-year-old woman, were arrested following a theft on a bus in Schöneberg. The 80-year-old victim had his wallet stolen, which was later used to withdraw a substantial sum from an ATM.
Plainclothes officers witnessed the pickpocketing incident at the Walther-Schreiber-Platz bus stop. The suspects then fled to the corner of Schlossstraße and Bundesallee, boarding the M48 bus. The special deployment unit of the Berlin Landeskriminalamt, acting on orders from the public prosecutor, carried out a forced entry and arrested the trio. During the arrest, another stolen wallet was found on the 35-year-old suspect, which had been reported missing in Berlin and later registered as stolen in Hamburg.
The suspects were subsequently transferred to the Berlin State Criminal Police Office’s specialized pickpocketing unit for further investigation. The 20-year-old suspect used the stolen bank card to withdraw a four-figure sum from an ATM at a bank on Wexstraße.
The suspects will be brought before the on-call court today for the issuance of arrest warrants. The swift action by the special forces unit has resulted in the recovery of the stolen wallets and the apprehension of the suspects, ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining public safety.
