Berlin police raid erupts in violence as suspects attack officers with glass bottle
A late-night police raid in Berlin’s Wilhelmstadt district turned violent after officers entered a venue on Wilhelmstraße. The operation, part of efforts to tackle gun-related crime, saw four officers injured and two suspects detained. Both were later released but now face charges of assault and resisting arrest.
The incident began at around 10:45 p.m. when a tactical unit stormed the premises. Inside, they encountered the 45-year-old owner and roughly 20 patrons, many of whom reacted with hostility.
The owner became aggressive when asked to stay calm, shoving and physically attacking an officer. Meanwhile, a 28-year-old patron joined in, striking another officer in the head with a full glass bottle. The blow caused a bleeding wound.
Three more officers suffered injuries from broken glass and further resistance. All injured personnel were taken to hospital for treatment.
The two suspects were arrested at the scene but released later. They now face charges for assaulting and resisting law enforcement.
The raid highlights the risks officers face during operations targeting illegal firearms. Both suspects will appear in court over the assault charges. Police continue to investigate the venue’s possible links to gun crime.
