Berlin police seize loaded gun and black powder in Wilmersdorf raid
Police in Berlin have seized an illegal loaded firearm and black powder during a raid in Wilmersdorf. The operation took place at the home of a 79-year-old man on Schlangenbader Straße. Authorities are now investigating potential breaches of explosives and firearms regulations.
The raid unfolded as officers inspected the man's apartment and vehicle for weapons storage compliance. A team of forensic experts from the Criminal Technical Institute, riot police, and local precinct officers carried out the operation.
Berlin has tightened gun control measures in recent years. Since 2021, stricter storage rules and higher rejection rates for firearm licences have been enforced. Rejections rose from 12% in 2021 to 28% in 2025—far above increases in other major cities like Munich (18%) and Hamburg (22%), according to federal police statistics.
The State Criminal Police Office is now leading the investigation. The seized items included a loaded weapon and explosive black color, both allegedly held without proper authorisation.
The case will proceed under the State Criminal Police Office's oversight. If violations are confirmed, the man could face charges under German firearms and explosives laws. The raid follows Berlin's broader push to enforce stricter weapons controls.
