Berlin Prosecutorial Authorities Get New Leadership - Berlin Prosecutorial Authorities Get New Leadership
Berlin’s judicial system is preparing for a change in leadership at two key institutions. The public prosecutor’s office and the state prosecutor’s office will both see new heads in the coming year. These roles are part of a unique structure within Germany, as Hesse is the only other state with a separate public prosecutor’s office.
The public prosecutor’s office in Berlin has handled minor offences for 75 years. This includes cases such as theft, assault, traffic violations, and petty crime. Unlike most German states, Berlin and Frankfurt am Main operate independent public prosecutor’s offices, separate from the main state prosecution.
The appointments mark a shift in Berlin’s legal leadership. Thom and Jaeger will now oversee distinct but critical areas of the city’s judicial operations. Their roles maintain a system that has operated independently for decades.
