Berlin robbery leaves young man injured after violent late-night attack
Incident No. 0366
In the early hours of last night, police were called to a robbery in Berlin's Biesdorf district. According to initial findings, a 22-year-old man was walking home along the sidewalk on Köpenick Street at around 1:50 a.m. when he was approached from behind by two men. After he removed his headphones, one of the assailants suddenly struck him on the head with a beer bottle. The attackers then demanded he hand over his valuables. The victim complied and managed to flee afterward, alerting both police and emergency services during his escape.
The man suffered head lacerations and was visibly shaken by the attack. Paramedics took him to a hospital for outpatient treatment. Officers from the 31st Police Company and Precinct 32 located the suspected robbers nearby shortly afterward. The two initially attempted to flee but were provisionally arrested near Biesdorf Palace Park close to Blumberger Damm. The suspects—a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old—confessed to the crime. Police found and seized a machete and a starter pistol on the younger assailant. All stolen items, including a wallet and the headphones, were fully recovered and returned to the victim.
A voluntary breathalyzer test revealed that both suspects had a blood alcohol level of approximately 1.4 per mille. They were taken into police custody for identification procedures and blood sampling. The 20-year-old was released after processing, while the 17-year-old is to be brought before an on-call court today for a potential arrest warrant. The Criminal Investigation Division of Police Directorate 3 (East) is leading the ongoing investigation.
