Berlin Seeks Operators for Tempelhofer Feld's New Summer Garden by 2026
A tender has opened for a seasonal summer garden in front of THF TOWER at Tempelhofer Feld. The project seeks operators to run an open-air dining concept during the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Applications will close on March 15, 2026, with the site set to open by June 19, 2026.
The planned summer garden will operate from June to September in both years. It must open by June 19, 2026, with setup permitted from June 1. Minimum operating hours are fixed: Wednesday to Friday from 5 PM to 10 PM, and weekends from 2 PM onward.
The tender requires operators to have proven experience. Their concept should be high-quality, financially sustainable, and respect the historic airport building's listed architecture. Possible formats include beer gardens, food truck markets, or similar open-air ideas.
Tempelhofer Feld has long been a focal point in Berlin. Since opening to the public in 2010, its edges have hosted temporary projects like summer gardens and cultural events. Recent developments include modernising the southeastern entrance and expanding refugee housing along Columbiadamm. The field also remains a debated location for major events, such as a potential World's Fair.
This latest project continues the trend of temporary uses around the former airfield. It aims to create a welcoming gathering place that fits with the site's existing infrastructure.
The tender reflects ongoing interest in activating Tempelhofer Feld's edges. Successful applicants will run the open stock garden for two seasons, starting in mid-2026. The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2026.
