Berlin Shooting: Syrian Ex-Militia Leader Suspected After Bar Incident
A violent incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in Berlin-Neukölln. A 21-year-old man was shot and a 24-year-old was injured after a verbal altercation with a group of six people in a bar on Neukölln Street.
The incident began as a verbal argument around 5 AM. It escalated when a man from the group pulled out a gun and shot the 21-year-old in the leg. The victim was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery for his gunshot wound. A 24-year-old who tried to intervene was punched by men from the group and also required medical attention, being taken to a clinic with head injuries.
The main suspect in the case is Anwar S., a Syrian national. He is believed to have been a leader of an Assad-loyal militia in Aleppo, responsible for torture and crimes against humanity. The Criminal Police of Police Directorate 5 (City) is investigating the suspects and the background of the assault. The suspects fled the scene after the shooting.
The 21-year-old man's condition is unknown. The 24-year-old is recovering from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing, with Anwar S. as the main suspect. The motive behind the assault remains unclear.
