Berlin stabbing leaves man injured after violent park confrontation
A 37-year-old man was stabbed in the neck during an argument in Berlin's Gesundbrunnen district. The attack took place around 3:15 p.m. on a green space near the U-Bahn courtyard at Osloer Straße. Police later arrested the 50-year-old suspect in a nearby apartment.
The altercation began when the suspect allegedly used a broken glass bottle to stab the victim. After the attack, the 50-year-old fled the scene but did not escape for long. Officers tracked him down and took him into custody before handing him over to the criminal investigation division of Directorate 1 (North).
The injured man was rushed to hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed his condition was not life-threatening. Investigators are now examining the circumstances of the assault. Berlin has seen similar cases where suspects fled after violent attacks. In 2019, a murder at Alexanderplatz led to an international manhunt, with arrests made years later. A 2021 assault at Bahnhof Hermannstraße involved a 12-year-old who turned himself in. Police typically use witness statements, CCTV analysis, and phone data to trace suspects, though not all are caught immediately.
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues. The victim's injuries are being treated, and his recovery is expected. Authorities will determine whether further charges will follow.
