Berlin to Host Major Protest Against Israel's Gaza Actions

A demonstration against Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip is set for Saturday in Berlin. Prominent figures, including Sahra Wagenknecht, Dieter Hallervorden, and Roger Waters, will speak out against the conflict and advocate for peace.

The Israeli government has defended its actions as a necessary response to a terrorist attack by Hamas and other extremists on October 7, 2023. Meanwhile, the Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached over 60,000 according to Palestinian organizations, over nearly two years.

The demonstration, organized by Sahra Wagenknecht and others, also opposes arms shipments to war zones and calls for an end to the arms race. Wagenknecht has criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for a policy of 'reckless armament' and confrontation with Russia. She has also dismissed accusations of antisemitism against Roger Waters and stated she would not align herself with anyone questioning Israel's right to exist. Dieter Hallervorden, despite past criticism, has asserted that 'Freedom of speech is a very high good'.

The Israeli government demands the release of all hostages taken to the Gaza Strip and the disarmament of Hamas. The demonstration in Berlin aims to raise awareness and advocate for peace, with prominent figures expressing their views on the conflict and its implications.
