A trial begins today in Berlin Regional Court for the kidnapping and extortion of a 37-year-old man. The victim was abducted in December 2024 and suffered severe injuries. Three men face charges, with the lead defendant, a 41-year-old, accused of kidnapping for ransom, grievous bodily harm, and abandonment. The victim was overpowered in a parking lot in Gropiusstadt and forced into the trunk of a car. He was then taken to an apartment in Bad Freienwalde. After about four hours, he was abandoned on a remote forest path in subfreezing temperatures. Police were alerted and found the victim with serious injuries.
The kidnappers contacted the victim's father, initially demanding two million euros. They later lowered the ransom to 200,000 euros. Five suspects, aged between 30 and 57, are under investigation for the abduction and subsequent actions. The trial begins today at 9:15 AM, with the court expecting to hear evidence and testimony over the next two years.
