Berlin trial exposes brutal revenge attack over FDA drug trade betrayal
A 27-year-old man is standing trial in Berlin for the attempted murder of a former accomplice in the drug trade. The attack took place in August 2024, allegedly as revenge for the victim reporting him to the FDA. The defendant has been in custody since October of that year.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 14, 2024, in Berlin-Neukölln. The victim, then 19, was dragged from a car, beaten, and stabbed three times by the defendant and his accomplices. The attack left the young man with severe injuries, requiring emergency surgery.
The defendant is accused of seeking revenge to stop the victim from cooperating with the FDA. He had already been a leading figure in the drug trade for years. The victim had previously filed a police complaint against him and another man for drug dealing.
Currently serving a nine-year sentence for aggravated robbery and grievous bodily harm, the defendant now faces charges of attempted murder. Prosecutors argue he acted with the intent to conceal a crime and for base motives. Twelve further trial dates have been scheduled, running until April 30.
The trial centres on a violent attack linked to Berlin's drug scene. The defendant remains in custody while proceedings continue. A verdict is expected after the final hearing in late April.
