Police: More Shootings, Less Theft - Berlin's 2025 crime report reveals sharp rises in violence despite overall decline

Berlin saw a mixed picture in crime statistics for 2025. While overall offenses dropped by 6.7%, some serious crimes rose sharply. Police recorded 502,743 cases, down from the previous year but with troubling increases in specific areas.

Theft remained the most common crime, with 203,000 incidents—a 9% decrease from 2024. Shoplifting, bicycle theft, and pickpocketing all declined. However, residential burglaries surged, linked to organised criminal networks from abroad.

Violent offenses reached 80,500, mostly assaults. Reports of domestic and family violence climbed 5% to 20,160 cases, with 70% of victims being women. Crimes involving firearms jumped 68% to 1,119 incidents.

Sexual offenses rose 16% to 8,652 cases. Online child and youth pornography offenses also spiked, partly due to increased reports from a U.S. organisation. Despite these rises, the overall clearance rate for crimes stood at 44.9%.

Berlin's 2025 crime data shows a fall in total offenses but highlights growing concerns. Firearm-related crimes, sexual offenses, and domestic violence all increased. Authorities will need to address these trends while maintaining progress in reducing theft-related incidents.
