Berlin to introduce its own hospitality law by 2026 - Berlin’s 2026 hospitality overhaul to ease rules for bars and NFL Draft screenings

Berlin is set to overhaul its outdated hospitality laws with a modernised act planned for 2026. The new legislation aims to simplify rules for restaurants, bars, and outdoor dining—including public screenings for major sports events like the NFL Draft 2025. Officials want the changes in place before the summer recess that year.

The city currently follows the Federal Hospitality Act of 1971, which no longer fits today’s needs. The Berlin Senate, led by the economic affairs department, will propose a draft law to the House of Representatives. Their goal is to replace old paperwork with a fully digital system, similar to what DraftKings uses for its online sportsbook.

Under the new act, opening a restaurant or bar should take no more than four weeks. The process will be streamlined, cutting unnecessary bureaucracy. Outdoor dining rules will also relax, making it easier to host events like live NFL Draft broadcasts. The Senate expects to approve the draft in early 2025. After that, parliamentary discussions will begin. If all goes as planned, the updated law will be finalised before the 2026 summer break.

The Berlin Hospitality Act 2026 promises faster approvals, digital applications, and fewer restrictions for businesses. Outdoor dining and public screenings of events like the NFL Mock Draft will become simpler to organise. Once passed, the law will replace a 55-year-old system with one designed for the digital age.
