Water Pipe Burst: A100 in the West Closed in Both Directions - Berlin’s A100 motorway shut down after massive water main rupture near Westend

A major water main rupture has shut down the A100 motorway in western Berlin. The incident occurred early on April 30, 2024, near the Ringbahnbrücke/Westend area, forcing authorities to close the road in both directions. Drivers are now facing severe delays as the cause of the break remains under investigation.

The rupture was reported in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Emergency services quickly sealed off the A100 between the Ringbahnbrücke and Westend junctions, halting all traffic. Nearby residents and businesses were also advised to evacuate as a precaution.

The closure has led to gridlock on surrounding roads. Commuters are being diverted onto alternative routes, but congestion has spread across the wider area. Authorities have not yet confirmed when the motorway will reopen or what triggered the water main failure. Repair crews are on site assessing the damage. Until the issue is resolved, the A100 will stay closed, leaving thousands of drivers to find other ways through the city.

The A100 remains completely blocked while investigations and repairs continue. Traffic disruptions are expected to last until further notice, with no estimated time for reopening. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible.
