Berlin's 'Am Tacheles' Unveils Modern Bike Parking System 'Bikesafe'
The 'Am Tacheles' quarter in Berlin-Mitte has unveiled a modern bike parking system, 'Bikesafe', designed to enhance urban space efficiency. The project, a challenging feat by Herzog & de Meuron, includes a sleek underground bicycle storage solution that blends seamlessly with the cityscape.
The 'Bikesafe', a mirrored cylinder, offers secure parking for up to 96 bicycles, protecting them from weather elements. It's a product of Koch & Partner Bike Parking Systems AG, in collaboration with Wohr, a parking solutions veteran since 1959. The parking process is swift, taking about 20 seconds, and uses a chip or QR code for access.
Architectural historian Erik Wegerhoff advocates for such efficient use of traffic areas in cities. He believes systems like 'Bikesafe' can help manage various means of transport more effectively, reducing congestion and promoting cycling.
The 'Bikesafe' at 'Am Tacheles' quarter is a testament to innovative urban planning. It offers secure, weather-protected bicycle parking, enhancing the area's appeal while promoting cycling. The system's efficient use of space aligns with Wegerhoff's advocacy for better traffic area management in cities.
