Berlin’s Cranzbau complex unveils bold new art for historic revival

Three new artworks will soon shape the Berlin headquarters of the Federal Institute for Real Estate Tasks (BImA). The pieces were chosen in a recent competition to restore the historic Cranzbau complex in Charlottenburg. Winners were announced after an independent jury reviewed submissions in late November 2025.

The competition covered three of the four planned art sites, with first and second prizes awarded for each. Neda Aydin took the top honour for the Cranzbau foyer with her glass sculpture Einschluss. The work explores ballistics and how forces affect materials and space.

Candy Lenk secured first place for the Jebensstraße foyer with her design DREI GERÄTE. Stefan Sous won the entrance and stairwell of Building B with his piece UNDER CONSTRUCTION. The jury highlighted the winning entries for their clear concepts, skilled craftsmanship, and striking spatial impact. All submitted designs will go on display from January 6 to 19, 2026, at Berlin’s Ernst-Reuter-Haus. A separate open competition for the fourth site will follow, aimed at students and recent graduates.

The selected artworks will become part of the restored Cranzbau complex. Their installation marks a key step in revitalising the listed building. The pieces will be permanently featured at the BImA headquarters once completed.
