Berlin’s Damaged Power Bridge Repaired Ahead of Schedule After Arson Attack

Repairs on the damaged cable bridge over the Teltow Canal are moving ahead of schedule. Stromnetz Berlin, the local grid operator, has organised extra resources to speed up the work. This follows a deliberate fire attack that left thousands without power in southwestern Berlin.

The bridge, severely damaged by arson, originally had repairs scheduled for completion by Thursday afternoon. Stromnetz Berlin took charge of the operation, bringing in specialist crews and materials from across Germany. Their efforts have cut the downtime significantly.

Around 19,900 homes and 850 businesses in Nikolassee, Zehlendorf, Wannsee, and Lichterfelde have been without electricity since the incident. The accelerated repairs now mean power will return to all affected areas by 11 a.m. today—far sooner than first expected.

The faster-than-planned repairs will restore electricity to thousands of residents and businesses. Stromnetz Berlin’s coordination of nationwide support has played a key role in reducing the outage duration. Normal service in the region should resume by mid-morning.
