Berlin’s December Crackdown Nets Hundreds of Impaired Drivers
Berlin police cracked down on impaired driving last December with a citywide enforcement campaign. Officers carried out around 260 operations, targeting motorists under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The initiative also included public awareness events to highlight the risks of driving while intoxicated.
The campaign, led by the Polizeipräsidium Berlin, focused on traffic checks across the city. Over 4,200 violations were recorded, with 129 cases involving impaired drivers. Among these, 172 motorists faced criminal charges for severe intoxication, while 16 were prosecuted for driving under the influence of drugs.
The December campaign resulted in numerous charges and violations linked to impaired driving. Berlin police have confirmed that similar traffic safety operations will remain a priority this year. The focus will continue on identifying and penalising drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
