Berlin's Elisabeth-Aue to become a vibrant new district with homes and schools

Berlin-Blankenfelde is set to gain a major new urban district in the Elisabeth-Aue area. Plans include around 5,000 homes, schools, and green spaces on a 73-hectare site previously used for farming. The project's first phase will feature 830 apartments, public areas, and a secondary school with sports facilities.

The state has outlined a phased approach to development. The zoning plan for the first stage is already in place, covering housing, roads, and a secondary school. This school, designed for 625 students, will use modular timber-frame construction and is scheduled to begin in 2027.

A primary school is also planned, though its exact location and design remain undecided. These details will depend on the chosen urban development plan, with no confirmed start or completion dates yet. The administration aims to finalise a mobility concept and a master plan for integrating transport, social, and technical infrastructure by mid-2027.

Public engagement has played a role in shaping the project. The Senate Department held cooperative workshops to gather feedback, with results to be shared in spring. Coordination between school and housing construction will be crucial for the district's acceptance among future residents.

The Elisabeth-Aue project will transform former agricultural land into a mixed-use neighbourhood. The first phase includes 830 homes, green spaces, and a secondary school, while further planning for a primary school continues. The state's timeline for infrastructure and mobility solutions runs until mid-2027.
