Berlin’s Görlitzer Park gets €1.74M fence—but night closures delayed until 2026
Görlitzer Park in Berlin-Kreuzberg will soon have a new fence around its perimeter, but nighttime closures won’t begin right away. The €1.74 million barrier is nearly finished, with final checks expected before Christmas 2025. A trial period for overnight shutdowns is set to start in March 2026 instead of immediately.
The fence, funded by the city’s environmental administration, will cost €1.74 million. Its installation is almost complete, though the final inspection won’t wrap up until late 2025. Despite this, the park will remain open at night until the trial phase begins on March 1, 2026.
The fence will be fully operational by late 2025, but nighttime closures won’t start until March 2026. The trial period will test the system until October 2026, after which the district will manage the fence long-term. Until then, the Senate will oversee its upkeep, though future responsibilities remain unclear.
