Berlin's Green Party Leaders Stahr and Ghirmai Seek Re-election for Steady 2026 Leadership

Berlin’s Green Party co-leaders, Nina Stahr and Philmon Ghirmai, are set to stand for re-election at the party conference on November 22. The duo, who have led the party since December 2023, aim to continue their steady leadership during the upcoming election year.

Stahr and Ghirmai's re-election in 2023 was partly due to the failure of Tanja Prinz to secure enough votes in three rounds of balloting at a chaotic party conference. Since then, the duo has managed to prevent further escalation of internal factional conflicts, even after the handling of the Stefan Gelbhaar case drew criticism from the two state chairs in late 2024.

Stahr, looking ahead, declares she is ready to take on the 'regressive coalition' and fight for better leadership in Berlin over the next five years. She acknowledges two turbulent years of 'crisis management' but states that the party is now back on a very good path. She looks forward to engaging substantively with the CDU and the black-red Senate coalition. Ghirmai, on the other hand, emphasizes the need for a strong Green Party to unseat Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU).

Stahr and Ghirmai aim to provide steady, experienced leadership within the party during the upcoming election year. Despite the challenges faced, including the Gelbhaar case, the duo has managed to keep the party united and focused. With their re-election, they hope to continue this momentum and strengthen the Green Party's position in Berlin.
