Berlin’s Halensee district gets a bold urban makeover with mixed-use hub
A major new development is taking shape at Henriettenplatz in Berlin's Halensee district. The project, led by developers Hines and degewo, will transform the area with a mix of housing, offices, and community spaces. After lengthy discussions, the final design has now secured approval from all involved parties.
The development will consist of ten buildings, blending residential, commercial, and office spaces. Two office towers—one seven stories tall, the other eight—will be linked by a six-story structure. The complex will also house 220 apartments, with 185 designated as rental units.
Retail spaces will form part of the project, including a new branch of supermarket chain Edeka. Families in the area will benefit from two on-site daycare centers and playgrounds. Beyond the buildings, Henriettenplatz itself will undergo a redesign to better connect with the surrounding neighborhood.
Negotiations over the plans stretched on for months, involving local authorities, residents, and the developers. The goal was to balance modern infrastructure with the needs of the community. Once finished, the project management will improve access to West Berlin's city center and reshape the urban landscape.
The completed development will add housing, childcare, and shopping options to Halensee. The redesign of Henriettenplatz will also create a more integrated public space. Construction marks a significant change for the district's future.
