Berlin's Haus für Poesie Presents 'Vocations': A Night of Resilience Through Poetry and Music

Berlin's Haus für Poesie, in collaboration with several institutions, presents 'Vocations', an event series showcasing resilience through poetry and music. The evening's highlights include the world premiere of Maxim Kolomiiets' musical setting of Viktor Rekalo's 'Vanishing Voices', and Ulrike Almut Sandig's performance of Hryhorii Semenchuk's 'UkrTears Incorporated'.

The Alter Ratio Vocal Ensemble contributes two world premieres to the event. Viktor Rekalo's 'Vanishing Voices', written in autumn 2021, resonates with lines like 'The sun vibrates in the pine forests... and there is absolutely nothing we must forget—what we must share are the few walls that surround us, and death.' Maxim Kolomiiets' musical setting of this poem receives its premiere at the event, performed at Berlin's Silent Green.

Ulrike Almut Sandig delivers a powerful performance of 'UkrTears Incorporated', expressing sorrow, fury, and resilience. This poem, written by Hryhorii Semenchuk since the start of the ukraine war, is performed by the Ukrainian-German poetry collective Landschaft. Ganna, a German-Ukrainian vocalist, adds a witty ode to ukrainian women's resilience with her performance of 'Baba'.

The 'Vocations' series, organized by Berlin’s Haus für Poesie, brings together poetry and music to celebrate unshakable resilience. Through works like 'Vanishing Voices', 'UkrTears Incorporated', and 'Baba', the event offers a powerful exploration of human spirit and endurance.
