Berlin’s House of Statistics reopens after bold renovation, reshaping Alexanderplatz

The House of Statistics in Berlin has officially completed its extensive renovation, marking a significant milestone in the city's transformation. Once a symbol of urban stagnation, the building now stands as a key driver of the city's news and development. The project blends historic preservation with modern upgrades, setting the stage for a vibrant new quarter at Alexanderplatz.

The renovation of the House of Statistics has overhauled nearly every aspect of the building. Hundreds of kilometres of new cabling were installed, and almost all interior surfaces were refurbished. The façade now features thousands of new windows and prefabricated elements, giving it a fresh yet historically sensitive look.

The first finished sections at the corner of Otto-Braun-Straße and Karl-Marx-Allee have already been handed over to Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM). These areas are now ready for occupancy. The wider complex will expand further with new constructions, including social housing and the future 'Town Hall of the Future' for Berlin-Mitte. From mid-2026, BIM will take on a major logistical task: moving around 760 workstations into the building. The company will occupy Building D, while other parts of the complex will host cultural venues, educational spaces, and civic initiatives. Birgit Möhring, BIM’s managing director, has expressed enthusiasm about playing a leading role in shaping the quarter’s news and development. The House of Statistics is part of a larger cooperative project that combines administration, residential living, and public spaces. Its completion represents a significant step forward in the ongoing redevelopment of Alexanderplatz.

The finished renovation transforms the House of Statistics into an active hub for Berlin’s urban growth. BIM’s relocation and the planned mixed-use expansions will bring new energy to the area. The project’s next phase will see the building fully integrated into the evolving Alexanderplatz district.
