Berlin's hy Consulting Goes Fully Independent After Management Buyout
Berlin-based hy Consulting has completed a management buyout, marking a new phase in its development. The firm, originally launched in 2017 as part of Axel Springer, will now operate as a fully independent consulting firm. Its new leadership aims to drive growth while maintaining a focus on digital transformation and innovation for executives.
hy Consulting began in 2017 as a digital consulting unit within Axel Springer. It specialised in helping executives with digitalisation strategies and innovation. Over time, the firm evolved into a partner-led business, though Axel Springer retained a stake.
A recent management buyout has now transferred full ownership to the consulting firm's leadership. The move aligns with Axel Springer's decision to concentrate on its core media and marketing operations. Meanwhile, hy Consulting's co-CEOs, Sebastian Voigt and Sebastian Herzog, remain in their roles to guide the transition.
Since its founding, the firm has delivered over 600 projects for more than 275 clients. Its team of around 60 experts covers strategy, innovation, pricing, sales, and digital transformation. The new ownership structure is intended to reinforce hy's entrepreneurial approach and support its long-term expansion.
Other German consulting firms, such as Roland Berger (founded 1967), Diva-e (2015), and co-evolve (2017), have also carved out niches in digital and sustainability consulting. However, hy Consulting's shift to full independence sets it apart as a partner-driven firm in Berlin's competitive market.
The buyout completes hy Consulting's transition from a media-backed unit to an autonomous consulting firm. With a proven track record and a focus on digital strategy, the firm will now pursue growth under its own leadership. The change reflects broader trends in the consulting sector, where independence and specialisation are increasingly valued.
