Everything went smoothly - Christmas tree adorns Memorial Church - Berlin’s Iconic Christmas Tree Stands Tall After Years of Holiday Mishaps

The Christmas tree at Berlin's Memorial Church is all set for this year's market, avoiding past mishaps. It's a 20-meter-tall, 35-year-old spruce from Altglienicke, southeastern Berlin. The tree will be ready to shine when the market opens on November 24.

In previous years, setting up the tree was not always smooth. There were incidents like truck breakdowns and trees too tall for tunnels. This year, however, the tree was successfully placed despite two illegally parked cars blocking the path. The market leadership, led by spokesperson Kristin Ferigo, has been organising the selection and transport of the Christmas tree for the Breitscheidplatz market. In 2000, a particularly memorable incident involved a scrawny spruce from Bavaria that was so undersized it ended up as elephant feed at the zoo, earning the nickname 'Bavarian provocation'.

This year's tree, a robust spruce from Altglienicke, promises to be a stunning centrepiece for the Breitscheidplatz market. With careful planning and organisation, the market leadership has ensured that the tree is in place and ready to light up the market when it opens on November 24.
