Berlin’s ‘James June’ beer garden revives 1970s charm with modern flair
The 'James June' beer garden in Berlin-Mitte is set for a major restoration. The project, led by the Berlin-Mitte Housing Association, will bring back its 1970s charm while adding modern touches. Work is underway to preserve key historical features while expanding the site for year-round use.
The restoration will keep the garden’s original layout, including its roses, grasses, and perennials. The iconic wall mosaic and dance pavilion will also remain, alongside newly reconstructed East German-style barstool benches. These will be permanently installed to maintain the site’s retro feel.
Once complete, the 'James June' beer garden will offer a mix of preserved history and new amenities. The combination of original 1970s features, expanded dining, and eco-friendly upgrades will create a space for both locals and visitors. The project marks a revival of the site while keeping its cultural roots intact.
