Berlin’s Landmark Energy Conference Sparks Global Debate on Transition Strategies

On March 26 and 27, 2025, Berlin hosted a significant international conference, 'towards a global energy transition', led by German Foreign Secretary Steinmeier, Energy Transition Minister Gabriel, and Environmental Minister Hendricks. The event, co-organized by the German government and renewable energy organizations, drew over 900 participants from more than 50 countries, surpassing initial expectations.

The conference, 'towards a global energy transition', aimed to present Germany's energy transition plans and foster international dialogue. It was preceded by another event, 'A Clean Industrial Deal for Europe', organized by the Ariadne project and the European Commission on the same day. The solar lobby group BSW and renewable energy organization BEE played key roles in proposing and co-organizing these events.

Participants included Energy and Foreign Ministers from various nations. Despite the enthusiasm, the conference also highlighted differing views on energy strategies. While Germany promoted its energy transition path, some attendees supported alternative approaches like nuclear power and large investor-owned projects. This diversity in opinion underscored the need for Germany to present its plans more clearly and compellingly.

The high-level conference 'towards a global energy transition' in Berlin sparked international interest, with over 900 attendees and many more turned away. Despite varied opinions on energy strategies, it offered a platform for dialogue and highlighted the need for Germany to articulate its energy transition plans more persuasively. The event's success has raised hopes for it to become a regular occurrence.
