Berlin's Mahlsdorf Station to Gain 700 New Bike Parking Spots by 2028

Berlin is expanding bicycle parking at its S-Bahn stations, with Mahlsdorf set to become the latest regional transport hub. By 2028, the station will gain around 700 new parking spaces as part of a wider plan to add 10,000 spots across the city. The project is currently in the early planning stages, with funding already secured.

The upgrade at Mahlsdorf follows a verified needs assessment and forms part of Berlin's push to improve cycling infrastructure. Similar expansions are already underway at other stations, such as Wuhletal, where 1,200 spaces will be ready by 2024, and Birkenstein, with 800 spaces planned for 2025.

Planning contracts for Mahlsdorf are expected to be awarded in early 2026. By the third quarter of that year, preliminary design documents will be submitted. Detailed construction plans should then be finalised by early 2027.

The new facility will include open-access and secure parking, along with spaces for non-standard bicycles. A service area may also be added. Funding of approximately €9.3 million will come from Berlin's Special Infrastructure Fund for the Growing City.

Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. Once finished, the garage will support Mahlsdorf's role as a regional transport hub. The project aligns with Berlin's broader goal of increasing cycling capacity at over 50 S-Bahn stations by 2026.
