Berlin's Marzahn district welcomes 140 modern apartments by 2027
A major residential project is taking shape in Berlin's Marzahn district. Developer degewo is constructing two eight-story buildings with 140 apartments next to the Eastgate shopping centre. The new complex is set to open in spring 2027, offering a mix of housing options and commercial spaces.
The development will include a variety of living spaces. Residents can choose from compact one-room studios, two- and three-bedroom flats, and seven large four-bedroom units. Sizes range from 42 to 99 square metres, with each apartment featuring a terrace or loggia. Over 100 of the homes will be barrier-free, ensuring accessibility for all.
Half of the apartments will be publicly subsidised, with starting rents fixed at €7 per square metre (net cold rent). The ground floor will house three commercial units, adding convenience for future residents. Sustainability is a key focus of the project. The buildings meet the *Efficiency House 40* standard, incorporating green roofs, rainwater management systems, and solar panels on the roof. The design follows *degewo*'s strategy of infill development, revitalising Marzahn—a district originally built in the 1970s. The structural framework is already in place, marking visible progress toward completion.
The new development aims to strengthen Marzahn's urban fabric through sustainable and inclusive housing. With a mix of subsidised rents, barrier-free designs, and eco-friendly features, the project will add 140 modern apartments to the area. Completion is expected by spring 2027.
