Berlin's Marzahn-Nord to gain 28 new apartments by 2026

A new residential building is set to rise on Schwarzwurzelstraße in Berlin's Marzahn-Nord. The project, approved in early 2026, will add 28 apartments to the neighbourhood. Plans for the site include changes to nearby green spaces and parking facilities.

The development will feature a three-storey structure with an additional recessed top floor. The design was finalised after the building permit was submitted in September 2025. Construction will take place next to an existing medical centre.

The project requires the removal of six poplar trees along the edge of the site. However, three mature deciduous trees on the property will remain untouched. As compensation, seven new deciduous trees will be planted. The new building will also eliminate a parking area currently used by patients visiting the adjacent medical centre. No replacement parking spaces are planned, which may affect visitors in the future.

The approved plans will bring 28 new homes to Schwarzwurzelstraße. While some trees will be lost, new plantings aim to offset the environmental impact. The removal of nearby parking, however, will alter access for medical centre visitors once construction is complete.
