Wegner travels to partner city Windhoek - Berlin's Mayor Kai Wegner Visits Windhoek for Twin Cities' 25th Anniversary

Berlin's Mayor Kai Wegner is set to visit Windhoek, Namibia from October 15 to 18 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the twin cities' partnership. The trip aims to strengthen and deepen the existing cooperation in culture, education, economy, research, sports, and democracy promotion.

Wegner's itinerary includes a meeting with Windhoek's mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja, a speech at the University of Namibia, and a visit to a local school. He will also attend the world premiere of the music theater production 'People of Song', which unites artists from both cities and will later be performed in Berlin's Humboldt Forum.

Berlin acknowledges its historical responsibility in remembering the German colonial era in Namibia, which resulted in the brutal suppression of the Herero and Nama resistance. While specific plans for strengthening the partnership are not yet known, general goals may include educational exchange, economic cooperation, cultural events, and environmental initiatives.

Kai Wegner's visit to Windhoek marks a significant moment in the twin cities' partnership. It underscores Berlin's commitment to fostering cooperation and understanding between the two cities, despite their historical past. The visit is expected to bring new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
