Berlin’s mayor unveils 2027 housing plan after crisis zoom meeting
Berlin’s mayor, Steffen Scheller, recently held talks with leaders from AWO, ASB, and DRK to tackle pressing social issues. The zoom meeting focused on housing shortages, rising care costs, and expanded support services. Plans to repurpose a former refugee shelter into affordable homes by 2027 were also announced.
The discussions highlighted the urgent need for affordable housing, particularly for seniors and students. A key proposal involved converting the former refugee accommodation at Flämingstraße 17 into apartments, a joint project between HOWOGE and Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Brandenburg eG. The site is expected to be ready by 2027.
The zoom meeting set clear priorities, including housing solutions, care cost management, and streamlined advisory services. With the Flämingstraße 17 project now in motion, officials aim to address housing shortages by 2027. Further zoom meetings will refine plans for long-term care and support systems.
