New S-Bahn line S15 to be opened at the end of March 2026 - Berlin's New S15 Line Opens March 28, 2026, Easing S-Bahn Congestion

Berlin's new S-Bahn line, the S15, is set to open on Saturday, March 28, 2026. This is the first phase of the larger S21 Berlin project, aimed at reducing congestion on the city's S-Bahn network. However, the name of the railway line planned after the first section of S21 remains unknown, as no official name or project designation has been documented.

The S15 will connect Nordring to Hauptbahnhof, providing direct travel from Wedding and Westhafen to the central hub. An interim station has been built beneath Hauptbahnhof to connect the S15 to the Nordring, nearing completion. Once fully operational, the S21 will run from Nordring via Hauptbahnhof, Potsdamer Platz, Yorckstraße to Südkreuz, with two additional sections planned but not yet under construction.

The S21 project includes a new S-Bahn stop at Perleberger Brücke, intended to serve the Europacity district. However, the formal planning approval process for this stop has not yet begun.

The opening of the S15 on March 28, 2026, will significantly improve connectivity in Berlin. Despite the delay from the end of 2025, the project is now on track. The future of the S21 line beyond the S15 remains in planning stages, with the name of the next section yet to be revealed.
