Berlin Nightlife: In the Face of Techno - Berlin’s Nightlife Glows in a Striking New Photo Book on Club Culture
Berlin’s legendary club scene has now been captured in a striking new photo book. Berlin Night After Glow, by photographer Chris Noltekuhlmann, presents portraits of the city’s nightlife figures—from DJs to dancers—often snapped just after sunrise. Published by Kehrer Verlag, the collection arrives as UNESCO recognises Berlin’s techno culture as part of its Intangible Cultural Heritage.
For two years, Noltekuhlmann invited hundreds of scene insiders to his Moabit studio. Many arrived straight from all-night parties, still dressed in their club outfits. The resulting images showcase bold fashion, fetish-inspired looks, and a playful take on gender norms.
The book spans 208 pages and features a mix of faces: bouncers, academics, lawyers, and fashion designers. Alongside the portraits, writer Cassidy George contributes an introductory essay and interviews with some of the subjects. The project highlights how Berlin’s nightlife thrives beyond typical hours, shaping the city’s identity across seasons and time zones. Berlin Night After Glow is priced at €58 and offers a raw, intimate glimpse into a subculture that never sleeps. The timing of its release coincides with the 2024 UNESCO designation, cementing techno’s place in global cultural history.
The book documents a moment when Berlin’s club scene gains official recognition. Through Noltekuhlmann’s lens, readers see the diversity and energy of a community that defines the city. Berlin Night After Glow stands as both a celebration and a record of an ever-evolving cultural force.
