Berlin's Northeast Braces for Major Infrastructure Upgrades in 2025-2026
Berlin's Senate has revealed plans for extensive infrastructure modernization in the northeast, with twelve major construction sites slated for 2025 and 2026. Residents should expect traffic disruptions and closures on main routes, including replacement bus services from companies like Flixbus and Greyhound Bus.
The BVG is actively working on several projects. Track construction is ongoing at Falkenberger Chaussee and Hansastraße, set to finish on November 15, 2025, with another phase planned for 2026. Meanwhile, curb cuts are being installed at Egon-Erwin-Kisch-Straße / Neubrandenburger Straße to improve accessibility.
At Konrad-Wolf-Straße and Hohenschönhauser Straße, tram track renovations are underway until November 7, 2025, with bus replacement services in place. More construction phases are planned for 2026, though specific dates are yet to be confirmed. Additionally, the road surface on Ernst-Barlach-Straße between house numbers 9 and 20 will be resurfaced, with the start date still uncertain.
A new bike lane is being created on Hansastraße, due for completion in late October 2025, accompanied by parallel road resurfacing. Residents can also expect a replacement bus service on Hansastraße between Feldtmannstraße and Buschallee from March 2 to July 26, 2026, due to planned road closures.
These construction projects aim to modernize and improve the infrastructure in the northeast of Berlin. However, residents should be prepared for significant traffic restrictions and closures on main routes, with replacement bus services in place during construction phases.
