Berlin's Oberschöneweide Welcomes a Bold New Creative Hub by 2027
A new creative hub is taking shape in Berlin's Oberschöneweide district. The project, led by the Reinbeckhallen Foundation | Collection of Contemporary Art, is designed to support startups, small businesses, and creative productions. Construction is already well advanced, with the building's shell complete and its distinctive roof now in place.
The hub will sit next to the existing Reinbeckhallen, linking directly to its workshops, print centre, and event spaces. Inside, 22 flexible units of varying sizes will share facilities, including a central lobby and a small canteen. The design also prioritises sustainability, with energy-efficient systems and integrated green spaces.
Funding for the project includes support from the Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures (GRW). Once finished, the building will serve as a key part of Oberschöneweide's long-term development as a hub for technology, science, and the creative economy. No comparable creative or startup centres have been built in Berlin's districts since 2020. The team behind the project, including architects and the Reinbeckhallen Foundation, expects completion by 2027.
The new hub will expand opportunities for creative industries in Oberschöneweide. Its connection to the Reinbeckhallen and focus on sustainability aim to strengthen the area's role as a centre for innovation. The project marks the first development of its kind in Berlin since 2020.
