Berlin's 'River Bath' Project Gets Boost With Cost-Effective Water Cleaning Solution
The long-debated 'River Bath Berlin' project has seen years of discussions regarding its financing. The project, aiming to create a swimming area in the Spree casino between Museum Island and Fischer Island, has faced criticism over its planned outdoor staircase. However, project initiators are working to address these concerns and make the project more cost-effective and ecological.
The 'River Bath Berlin e.V.' association has been conducting research since 2017 using a laboratory ship to investigate the feasibility of ecological water cleaning. Recent findings have shown that water filtration and purification can be achieved with significantly less effort than originally estimated. This could make the project considerably cheaper than initially planned.
The association has received around €4 million from the federal government and the state of Berlin between 2015 and 2019 to drive the project forward. The final report, due to be submitted to the Senate at the end of March, aims to dispel any remaining doubts about the project's feasibility. The project initiators hope to avoid the project being shelved due to critical reporting.
The 'River Bath Berlin' project, if implemented, would create a swimming area in the Spree casino using natural filter areas. The project aims to clean the Spree water for swimming without hesitation. With recent research findings showing a more cost-effective and ecological approach, the project's future looks promising as the final report is set to be submitted to the Senate.
