Berlin’s ruling coalition faces collapse as voter frustration surges in new poll

A new poll reveals growing dissatisfaction with Berlin’s ruling coalition. If the 2024 election were held next Sunday, the CDU and SPD would lose their majority, securing just 36% of the vote combined. The findings also highlight widespread frustration with the city’s leadership.

The CDU remains the strongest party in the survey, holding 23% of voter support. However, the SPD has dropped sharply to 13%, placing them fifth behind other competitors. The Left Party follows with 18%, while the AfD stands at 16% and the Greens at 15%.

Respondents expressed strong criticism of the current government. A striking 76% reported dissatisfaction or strong dissatisfaction with the CDU-SPD coalition’s performance. Separately, two-thirds of those polled voiced unhappiness with Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU).

The poll suggests a clear shift in Berlin’s political landscape. The CDU-SPD alliance would fall short of a majority if the 2024 election were held now. Meanwhile, voter discontent with both the coalition and the mayor remains high.
