S-Bahn Restrictions After Strike in Berlin - Berlin's S-Bahn halts key routes as construction work disrupts travel today

Berlin's S-Bahn network is facing major disruptions today due to ongoing construction work. Several key routes have been suspended, leaving passengers to rely on replacement buses. Travellers are being urged to check updated schedules before setting off.

No trains will operate between Schöneweide and Ostkreuz or Neukölln for the rest of the day. The affected lines include S3, S41, S42, S46, S47, S8, S85, and S9. Replacement bus services have been put in place to cover these gaps.

The disruptions come as part of a wider programme of maintenance work on Berlin's S-Bahn infrastructure. Planned construction between June 14 and December 12, 2026, will see Fernverkehr trains rerouted through the underground Berlin Hauptbahnhof. Meanwhile, the new S15 line between Gesundbrunnen and Hauptbahnhof is now set to open on March 30, 2026, following delays caused by approvals, safety checks, and supply chain issues.

As of February 23, 2026, no additional S-Bahn construction disruptions have been reported. However, today's work has led to altered frequencies, platform changes, and revised timetables. Passengers are advised to use the S-Bahn's online timetable tool for the latest updates.

Services are expected to return to normal by the end of operations tonight. Until then, commuters should plan extra time for their journeys and confirm their routes before travelling. The ongoing construction aims to improve long-term reliability across the network.
