After Vandalism: S-Bahns Running Regularly Again - Berlin’s S-Bahn recovers after deliberate cable sabotage halts key lines

S-Bahn services in northern Berlin resumed normal operations on Monday following vandalism that targeted crucial signal cables. The incident late on Sunday evening resulted in significant delays on multiple lines, including the S1, S2, and S25. Authorities have condemned the act as deliberate destruction.

The damage occurred along the Nord-Süd-Bahnlinie between Gesundbrunnen and Nordbahnhof stations. According to the Federal Police, several metres of cable were stolen, while another section was severely cut. This followed a separate incident on New Year’s Eve, when suspected arson was reported at Wedding S-Bahn station.

Repair crews worked diligently through the night to restore the cables. Their efforts allowed services to restart earlier than anticipated. Transport Senator Ute Bonde described the act as 'clear, deliberate destruction' but confirmed no suspects have been identified yet.

Lines S1, S2, S25, S26, and S85 all experienced disruptions due to the vandalism. With repairs now complete, trains are operating as usual. Investigations into the incidents continue, with no group or individual claiming responsibility so far.
