Berlin’s stolen championship trophy melted into a silver ingot by thieves
Füchse Berlin’s championship trophy, stolen just months after the club’s historic win, has been melted down beyond recognition. Police have now arrested two men in connection with the theft after a two-month investigation. The trophy disappeared in mid-November, shortly after the team secured its first-ever championship. Investigators described the thief as an 'absolute professional' whose career is likely finished. A new voice-activated surveillance system provided crucial audio recordings, revealing details about the suspects’ planned methods. Following intensive searches, police recovered a silver ingot, gold worth a low six-figure sum, €15,000 in cash, and a smelting furnace. Two men, aged 41 and 62, were arrested in connection with the crime. The younger suspect remains in custody, while the older man has been released. The club must now commission a replacement trophy. With the original destroyed, the recovered evidence—including gold, cash, and smelting equipment—will play a key role in the ongoing investigation.
