Berlin’s THW convoy drill to disrupt traffic this Saturday
The THW's Treptow-Köpenick local branch in Berlin will hold a convoy exercise this Saturday, involving nine vehicles. The drill aims to practice coordinated movement along various routes between Berlin-Grünau and the direction of Fürstenwalde. Local residents should expect localized traffic delays, particularly in southern Adlergestell, Wernsdorfer, Neu Zittauer streets, and nearby major roads.
The THW, Germany's operational civil protection agency with around 88,000 volunteers, will use the exercise to train driving together on state and federal roads, highways, and in-convoy coordination. During the exercise, all vehicles will have blue emergency lights activated and left-side vehicles will be marked with flags, creating unusual traffic situations. Under German traffic regulations, a convoy is treated as a single vehicle and takes precedence over cross traffic at green lights.
All units from the THW's Treptow-Köpenick local branch will participate in the exercise, practicing coordinated movement along various routes. The exercise will cover driving together on state and federal roads as well as highways, along with in-convoy coordination.
The THW's Treptow-Köpenick local branch convoy exercise on Saturday aims to enhance the volunteers' skills in handling unusual traffic situations and coordinating movements. Local residents are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as localized traffic delays are expected.
