No Tram Service Due to Icy Overhead Lines - Berlin’s transport chaos as icy weather halts tram and S-Bahn services
Berlin’s public transport faced major disruptions on Monday as icy conditions caused widespread problems. Tram services across the city were completely suspended after overhead lines froze over. Meanwhile, the S-Bahn also reported a halt in services on a key section of the Ringbahn route.
The BVG announced a full shutdown of all tram operations due to iced-over power lines. Passengers were advised to switch to alternative options like the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, or buses while repairs took place.
Separately, the S-Bahn confirmed an interruption on the Ringbahn between Südkreuz and Hermannstraße. The cause of this disruption remains unclear, though Berlin is currently battling extreme black ice hazards. No further details have been provided about when the S-Bahn service might resume. For inquiries about Südkreuz station, Sabine Bösing, Managing Director of BAG W, can be contacted at 284 4537 – 20 or [email protected]. However, no specific updates on the S-Bahn issue were available at the time of reporting.
The transport delays come as Berlin deals with severe winter weather. Commuters are being urged to check for updates before travelling. Both the BVG and S-Bahn have yet to confirm when normal services will return.
