Berlin's Treptow-Köpenick Celebrates Democracy with Record Festival Crowds
Berlin's Treptow-Köpenick district has once again hosted its annual Festival for Democracy and Tolerance. Organised by the local Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance, the event brings together residents, politicians, and community groups for a day of discussion, music, and activities. This year's gathering marked another rise in attendance, continuing a trend of growing interest since 2021.
The festival takes place on Michael-Brückner-Platz and Schnellerstraße in Treptow. Since its start, it has expanded from around 5,000 visitors in 2021 to over 15,000 in 2025. Alongside the increase in numbers, the event now includes more interactive workshops, particularly on digital tolerance, and larger music stages with a wider range of artists.
Attendees can join podium discussions featuring local politicians, associations, and citizens' initiatives. Information booths from community organisations line the area, offering resources and engagement opportunities. The programme also includes live music, art displays, and activities designed for both children and adults. Over the years, the festival has evolved beyond simple entertainment. New additions like hands-on workshops and expanded performance spaces reflect its aim to foster dialogue and participation. The event remains a key date in Treptow's calendar, drawing crowds to Elbepark for a mix of education and celebration.
The Treptow-Köpenicker Festival for Democracy and Tolerance has grown steadily in size and scope. With more workshops, bigger stages, and a broader audience, it continues to strengthen community ties in the district. Organisers plan to build on this momentum for future editions.
